Sankranthi

Sankranti Muggu

In India, Sankrati is celebrated to recognize previous year’s harvesting and prosperity that is brought along with the harvesting season. People decorate their homes and creatively developed art work filled with colors in the front courtyard of their homes. I personally enjoyed this festival as my mom used to let me put the color in the art and collect cow dung to make small bowls that can hold different types of lentils, paddy, and other seeds that are considered to provide bread and butter to many families with agriculture background. I need to mention a nitty-gritty detail here. Once we place the art and the carefully handcrafted bowls in the middle of the art work, we used to make sure that no vehicle or human doesn’t run over that. But eventually, someone spoils that intentionally or unintentionally, causing us a moment of anger. I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year and Sankranti’14.
